BACKGROUND

Top Shelf International (TSI) embarked on the development of a new agave distillery to expand its premium spirits portfolio. The project prioritized sustainability, resource efficiency, and scalability, ensuring the facility could meet increasing production demands while minimizing environmental impact. It was developed in the Whitsundays region of northern Queensland.

DESCRIPTION

Flexigen provided full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services, starting with feasibility studies and technical design to establish a cost-effective and sustainable process framework. The process engineering and energy systems were developed to optimize efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability.
The facility was designed to be self-sufficient in water sourcing and wastewater treatment. The energy system is off grid, with only a small backup grid connection to support critical resources such as emergency lighting and control systems. A biofuel boiler was included in the design to supply the required steam heating. The distillery layout allows for future scalability, with production capacity designed to reach 1.5 million bottles per year .
